The Pentatonic Minor Scale

Why these five tones?

The tones are chosen using the 1st 3rd an 5th intervals, making up the C min triad and adding in the 4th and 7th .

Another way to choose the 5 tones if you have a knowledge of relative minor keys:

First, start with the major scale and stack perfect 5th intervals above the tonic, C.

The Major Pentatonic Scale

What is a pentatonic?

Pentatonic scales should not be a mystery. A pentatonic scale is not something somebody came up with one day and said, “Here everybody is the pentatonic scale!” and therefore it was.

All About String Bending

Bending strings causes the pitch of the note fretted to change to a higher pitch.

Most commonly strings are bent a whole step (to sound like the note 2 frets higher)

But sometimes they can be bent just ½ step (sounds like 1 fret higher) or even higher: 1 ½ steps (sounds 3 frets higher) and the finger-numbing 2 step bend (sounds like 4 frets higher.

Practicing Effectively For Quicker Progress – Part 1

A song, chord, scale, lick or whatever is only as hard as its hardest sequence of notes. Usually these come in the form of physically technical challenges. Sometimes they can be musical too such as timing or pitch related.

So start by knowing what your biggest challenges are in learning a new piece, Those are going to be those hardest sequences of notes. Also know what parts require little effort to learn. That’s making the plan.
